The Thirteenth Annual International Language of Spirit Conference
Keynote Speakers-Sunday August 14th, 2011

Sunday Keynote Talk #1-"A Flickering Reality" with F. David Peat @ 9am-10am

Picture
From Plato’s prisoners in the cave to Eastern philosophy the material world has been compared to a series of shadows or a vivid dream. With the advent of quantum theory the world has become d’Espagnat’s “veiled reality” and for Bohm a deeper reality lies behind the Explicate Order and the limitations of language. Peat’s talk will discuss how these hidden realities are explored in the world of cinema and the arts.

David Peat, the author of many books including a biography of David Bohm,  whom Peat collaborated, books on quantum theory, chaos theory, and creativity, including Blackfoot Physics, The Blackwinged Night: Creativity in  Nature and Mind, and his latest book A Flickering Reality. Peat collaborated with Leroy Little Bear to begin the inaugural science dialogue bringing together Western scientists and Native elders in dialogue. Peat created the Pari Center for New Learning.

Keynote Talk #2-"Science and Technology in Contemporary Technological Society with Dr. Richard Dobrin @ 10:15am-11:15am

Picture
Contemporary science in the Western world, regardless of the discipline, is devoted to the exploration of the material universe. Physics is that science which studies the fundamental laws which underlie the material universe itself. Physics, and all contemporary science, remains separate from spirituality, as if that which created this physical universe, and the physical universe itself, have absolutely no relationship to one another. This was not always believed to be so. In fact, in ancient societies, spirituality played a dominant role in daily life, and science and spirituality were inseparable. The nature of creation was explored primarily through spiritual means, where the human being was the exploratory instrument.

This talk will seek to reveal the deep roots of modern contemporary science. It will elucidate the common confusion between pure science, applied science, and technology, and explore the effects of technology upon the nature of our world, both constructive and destructive. It will also address the reintroduction of spirituality in the modern context.

Dr. Richard Dobrin, professor emeritus of physics and radiology, has also been a human energy-field researcher, meditative yogi, and international businessman in high technology radiology for 30 plus years.

Keynote Talk #3-"Consciousness, Collaboration, Co-existence, Cohesion: An Indigenous Ethnic regarding Land, Culture, and Community" with Simon Ortiz @ 11:30am-12:30pm

Picture
We, as a general human community, are in a community with all elements and aspects of creation on this earth and the universe.  The basis of our consciousness is the community we share with all elements and aspects even if we don't completely understand and comprehend all things.  In fact, community is founded on collaboration achieved between human beings and our cultures and other earthly and universal elements and their cultures.  We also share and live by co-existence even when we, at the same time, also may fight against co-existence which is, much of the time, detrimental to us.  We are coming to realize co-existence is useful, helpful, and beneficial to us even when we may, at times, feel uncomfortable about it. Lastly, we are striving toward cohesion or cohesivity.  Creation and continuance is possible only by cohesion.  Peace, reconciliation, resolution, regeneration, and love are possible only by cohesion.  That's why we must devote ourselves to the principle and practice of an Indigenous ethic regarding land, culture, and community.
